Community Agreements
CAMP Rehoboth Community Center has established the following Community Agreements to help create safe, welcoming, and affirming spaces for the LGBTQ+ and ally community across all of our programs, services, activities, and events -
this is how we show up!
- Cultivate wellness, establish healthy boundaries and encourage self care: We cultivate personal wellness and joy among our LGBTQ+ community. We welcome healing, repair and growth within ourselves and others. We encourage all participants in Community Center functions to establish appropriate boundaries and to take care of themselves physically and emotionally (take breaks, stretch, get a snack/drink, step away).
- Foster inclusivity and embrace diversity: We strive to create a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and supported. We support each other and collaborate to create positive change within the Community Center and beyond. We believe in equal access to resources. We acknowledge and challenge how racism affects people of color within the LGBTQ+ community, and we therefore actively work to create a space free from all forms of racism and discrimination.
- Support advocacy and empowerment: We support and advocate for the rights and well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals, including transgender empowerment.
- Co-create a safe space: We co-create an environment where individuals can comfortably express their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression without fear of judgment or discrimination. If you see or experience concerning behaviors, we encourage you to advocate for yourself and others or bring to the attention of leadership and/or staff. We will not tolerate harassment or other unwanted advancements, whether of a sexual nature or not.
- Avoid assumptions and respect pronouns: We do not assume someone's sexual orientation or gender identity based on appearance or other factors. We use gender inclusive language and keep an open heart. We respect people's pronouns and, when in doubt, ask for them from a place of respect. We understand that gender and gender identity can be fluid. If we make a mistake, we will apologize and move on. We will not tolerate the disrespectful use of pronouns.
- Take individual responsibility: We acknowledge that each person is accountable and responsible for their own actions and reactions. We show kindness to ourselves and others.
- Protect privacy and confidentiality: We believe in everyone’s right to confidentiality and individual privacy. We keep sensitive/personal information that has been shared within the Community Center or during a Community Center-sponsored event confidential. What you see here, who you see here, what is shared here, when you leave here, let it stay here.
- Listen, speak and learn: We listen to each other with an open mind, refraining from criticism or judgment. We speak only from our own experiences and we respect the experiences of others. If harm is caused to others, we are open to feedback, we take responsibility, and we work towards understanding. We encourage full participation - if you tend to speak a lot, step back, and if you tend to sit back and listen, speak up. We also listen to hear and understand, not simply to respond.
Each staff member/volunteer/board member/participant/visitor/attendee/guest/etc. is expected to abide by these Agreements at all CAMP Rehoboth Community Center functions. If you feel you cannot, please leave until you feel you can.
Anyone demonstrating through words or actions that they cannot honor these Agreements may be asked to leave the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center or venue/location of an event sponsored/co-sponsored by CAMP Rehoboth Community Center. CAMP Rehoboth Community Center’s staff reserve the right to enforce this policy in the best interest of the organization and the community at large.
If you have any questions or need help in clarifying any of the behaviors listed in these Agreements, please feel free to contact anyone on CAMP Rehoboth’s staff.
