Beach Ball and Cruise On
Just got my invite to the Black & White Beach Ball featuring the 2013 HeART of the Community Live Auction! Tix for the June 1 event are available now—go online or call the CAMP Rehoboth office, 227-5620. And did you know that CAMP is planning a cruise?! How cool is that. It’s a 14 day trip to South America and around the Cape leaving January 17, 2014. Very exciting.
The weekend this issue hits the stands, the second Lingo’s Market, Bakery & Seafood will be open. The original Lingo’s Market (now called Dinah Lingo’s Market) will continue to operate at the corner of First and Baltimore where it has been in business since 1898! The current structure was rebuilt in 1913.
I love hearing about all the remodels and new openings in the area. It’s wonderful to see our little beach town alive and thriving and packed on the weekends. Things are well under way at The Bramble & Brine restaurant located in the former South Pacific Florist space. Their Facebook page mentions lots of fresh pasta and a global menu created with that in mind.
The music expansion continues! In addition to the Rehoboth Jazz Fest, the Freeman Stage at Bayside, and the Firefly Music Festival (which this year features the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), we are getting yet ANOTHER venue! Just about 45 minutes west of here on the Delaware/Maryland border will be the new Amphitheater at Heron Ponds. Featuring a 7000 person capacity (with 1800 seats under cover), it’s being modeled after the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. Can I get an AMEN?!
For those of you interested in more information about a plant based diet, check out Rehoboth’s first VegFest, held on the grounds of Epworth Church on June 1. This festival features lots of eating, recipes, great info and more, from the likes of Hobos, Nage and Modern Mixture.
Several of our area’s farmers markets are now open. The Rehoboth Beach Farmers Market hosts theirs on Tuesdays in the park behind the Visitor Center, and the Historic Lewes Farmers Market is on Saturdays on the Lewes Historical Society grounds at Shipcarpenter Street.
The Cape Water Taxi resumes May 17, offering a fun way to travel the canal from Lewes to Dewey. In addition to their taxi service, Eco Tours, and Sunset Cruises, they’ve added a second boat and will offer water taxi service in the Long Neck area as well.
Get your quarters ready—meters are already back in action in Lewes and will be live again in Rehoboth on Friday, May 24. If you haven’t tried the Parkmobile system on your smartphone, it’s great! Imagine lying on the beach and being able to put more time on the meter. The No Turn on Red signs and No Left Turn signs are back as well.
Free yoga and Zumba sessions will be offered in the Lewes Canalfront Park, and a paid yoga class will be held on the beach in Dewey, ocean-side at Swedes Street. Lots of area health clubs offer day/week/season passes for visitors, and last I heard, Club Fitness was still offering locals a membership for just $9.99 a month. Can’t beat that.
“You go and save the best for last,” the song says, and indeed I did. Now all of us can get married in Delaware and what news is better than that?! Congratulations everyone!
