Return of the Pelican

The Pelican Loft will be back! That wonderful store with an eclectic mix of new and antique home accessories will have a brand new space on Rehoboth Avenue next to Azura Clothing. Can’t wait!

The Village by the Sea Mall, where Pelican Loft was last seen, will have a number of changes. Silver Works will close forever this December and is currently having an incredible sale on everything in the store. Lingo’s Market, Bakery & Seafood will finally open on May 18.

Josephine’s Daughter (art, accessories, and gifts) is moving from Baltimore Avenue into the space formerly occupied by Creatable Crafts on Rehoboth Avenue. Also on ReHo Ave, Grotto Pizza is getting a huge makeover, and Modern Mixture has added several tables and now is licensed to serve libations. Cloud 9 had a stay of execution and will not be demolished at this time, not sure what it will be this summer.

On Wilmington Avenue, The Avenue Inn entrance is coming along nicely and will boast a bar in the new space. I understand the owners of the Avenue Inn bought the space that was once Shag and Cypress. Not sure what their plans are.

Now open on Baltimore Avenue we have Frank & Louie’s Italian Specialties next to Hobo’s, and I see that Universal Gear has reopened for the season.

Heading south on Route 1, Gelato Gal has reopened in a larger space and will also feature chocolates and BBQ this year. The Captain’s Table has been reborn as Table & Taproom, and Dewey’s Hammerheads is opening a second location right on the water at the Indian River Inlet.

As we head north on Route 1, there is now a Fashions for Less Boutique which opened next to Buffalo Wild Wings. The old KFC has finally sold and will be a GIANT gas station. Jersey Mike’s sub shop will open next to the new sweetFrog yogurt store in the Superfresh shopping center.

Coming soon to Lewes will be The Nectar Café and Juice Bar which will be located behind the fabulous new candy store, Edie Bees

Last month I mentioned that Sheryl Crow would be one of the acts for the Freeman Stage at Bayside; I just found out that Sheila E. will headline the Rehoboth Jazz Fest this year.

Big Sissies is now open for lunch on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. If you haven’t been, you definitely have to go! The soups alone are worth the trip—they are DIVINE, dahlink! John B wrote to say that Rigby’s has made some mouth-watering menu changes; Dale M wrote me with rave reviews about the new menu and remodel at JD’s Filling Station, and Kim C wrote to say that she loves Casa Amici (near Savannah Animal Hospital) for their generous portions and daily specials.

In Milton, check out the Vintage Café, which offers a terrific menu and fabulous baked goods. Owner Ami Rae will soon be opening a new, full-service restaurant and bakery in Milton on Route 16, featuring seasonal menus and locally-sourced ingredients. Arena’s is opening a new location in Milford featuring outdoor, waterfront dining on the Mispillion River. In Millsboro, (this is the 3M paragraph, in case you hadn’t noticed!) 1776 Steakhouse in Midway is taking over Luca and turning it into a pub/eatery named The Pint.

Two members of our community have started the Sussex County Hour Exchange, which is a time bank of people helping each other by sharing their skills, talents, interests, and experiences without any exchange of money. What a cool concept! For more info call 302-703-2756.
