Now Is the Month of Maying
Looks like Spring has finally arrived, and just in time for us to start making plans for the summer! It’s getting busy here in Gayberry, and everyone is preparing for the even busier summer season. Time to make plans for dinner downtown, stroll through the shops, see a show—before the meters go up! All locations are Rehoboth Beach, unless otherwise noted.
PERFORMING ARTS
Clear Space Theatre Company (20 Baltimore Avenue; 302-227-2270) the regions only professional theatre company, presents 9 to 5: The Musical with a toe-tapping score by Dolly Parton. The musical plays Friday and Saturday (7 p.m.) and Sundays (3 p.m.) through May 26. Registration has begun for their Musical Theatre Summer Intensive programs with camps for ages 6-18. New season ticket offer—buy four shows, and get the fifth free! The 2013 season includes: La Cage Aux Folles, The Sound of Music, Radio Gaga: A Gleeful Experience, The Foreigner, and An American Christmas Carol. Possum Point Players (441 Old Laurel Road in Georgetown; 302-856-4560) announces Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None—June 14-23. Dinner and show packages available.

*Amandeline Gallery (Galleries at 20 Baltimore Avenue; 302-226-0330) features Celebrating Women in Art through May. The gallery will exhibit a compilation of works from talented female artists Anne Packard, Elaine Hahn, Patricia Hansen, and Yvonne Mora.

Art for a Purpose (135 Second Street, second floor, in Lewes; 302-245-4528) is a one-of-a-kind art gallery run by Midge Smith which assists tax-exempt organizations by turning donated art into cash. The gallery is open Friday-Sunday.
Barking Dog Gallery (29 Lake Shore Drive; Lewes; (856) 577-1411) offering classes in watercolor, zentangle, and jewelry by Donna Whiteside. Open by appointment.
CAMP Rehoboth (37 Baltimore Avenue; 302-227-5620) is showing We Collect What We Can Bare—the works of Michael Muller and David Smith through May. Artists reception is Saturday, May 11 from 6-9 p.m.
*Gallery 50/G-50 Fine Art Photography (50 A-B Wilmington Avenue; 302- 227-2050) welcomes award-winning, master framer Ed McGann (formerly of Thunderbird Shop & Gallery) as manager. Come see Ed, their new look, and wonderful new works of art. Mark your calendars for the Jonathan Spivak exhibition on May 10.
The Happyrock Pottery (20 Baltimore Avenue at the Celebration Mall; 410-375-7120) features the work of potter Susan Gladstone. Remember your mother with a handmade piece of pottery from the Happyrock pottery.

*Juleez (1 North First Street; 302-227-3792) features the unique and vibrant works of Julie Borden including hand-painted cellos, violins, miniature pianos, beautiful acrylic on canvas originals, and giclee prints. They also carry dichroic glass sculptures of Mary Ann Borden.
Paintiques & The Galleries at 20 Baltimore (20 Baltimore Avenue; 302-258-4203) will be featuring fun theme-filled hallways with art, accessories and painted furniture. Experience the warm, inviting colors of the Tuscan hillsides and the Italian marketplace. Thursday and Friday: noon-6 p.m., Saturday: noon-8 p.m., and Sunday: noon-4 p.m.
Peninsula Gallery (520 E. Savannah Rd in Lewes; 302-645-0551) announces their May exhibition which presents seven artists in a themed show titled Nocturne. The seven artists include Al Barker, Howard Eberle, Doris Ingram, Brian Murphy, Damon Pla, Steve Rogers, and Nick Serratore. Each artist was challenged to bring their particular talent and technique to construct work inspired by the atmosphere of a quieter time of day: evening to dawn. Through May 29.
*Philip Morton Gallery (47 Baltimore Ave; 302-727-0905) has a fresh new look and will soon be launching a new website. They’ll be welcoming exhibits by Debby Burk, Al Lachman, and Elizabeth Christopher among others.

Rehoboth Art League (12 Dodds Lane in Henlopen Acres; 302-227-8408) presents the first of the spring/ summer exhibition season with, Catherine Hillis’ Color and Light in the Tubbs Gallery and a Members Showcase: Shadowboxing in the Historic Homestead. The Catherine Hillis exhibit will remain on view and paintings for sale through June 2. The Members Showcase continues through June 9.

Come in and see the ever-popular Spiritiles (molten glass on copper) by Houston Llew, beautiful contemporary blown glass menorahs by Shardz Glass, recycled farm equipment transformed into contemporary side tables, hand blown glass, pottery, and metal works by various American artists.
